Hello! My name is Amanda. I am in my final semester as an undergraduate student. I am majoring in Statistics and minoring in both Mathematics and Education. I am currently working as a STEM Instructor, but I plan to become a Data Analyst or something related to that field post-graduation. I am still not certain if I am going to continue my education right after I graduate or start getting more professional work experience.

In my educational experiences, technology has played a significant role in enhancing my learning and collaboration in many of my classes. At the beginning of my undergraduate schooling in various classes, I frequently used iClicker to engage in lectures by answering multiple-choice questions. I used collaborative tools like Flipgrid, Google Docs, and Google Slides to work with my classmates. I have also experienced learning management systems like Canvas and Blackboard in high school and university, which were great platforms for seeing assignments and course materials. In some of my education classes, my teachers allowed us to explore diverse learning apps on iPads that could be beneficial to teaching students. Overall, if mastered the technologies my experiences were effective and made a more interactive educational experience.

My personal learning network (PLN) is diverse. It incorporated various tools, groups, and individuals to cater to my learning needs and goals. LinkedIn has been a key platform for my professional growth, connecting me with like-minded groups and individuals. It has proven invaluable in job searches, offering educational and professional resources, and guiding me toward certifications that enhance my professional growth. As ironic as it may seem, Instagram also plays a role in my PLN. I am part of various educational community groups that focus on coding, women in STEM, neuroscience, psychology, and other areas of interest. Additionally, I tend to favor FSU's library database for accessing information for my research papers and satisfying my own curiosity on various topics. In my coding classes, platforms like Kaggle and Google are usually my "go-to's" for datasets and research materials.

  1. Hi, Amanda! Your educational journey is very different from mine, haha. Math is definitely not my strong suit, so I avoided it as much as I could and took the easiest classes I could, so majoring and minoring in mathematics is wild to me!
I can imagine that using technology is a big part of being a statistics major, even something as small as a calculator can be hugely beneficial. I've never heard of iClicker or Flipgrid before!
It sounds like your PLN is tailored to be exactly what you need it to be, and that's great! Having a wide range of networks shows diversity. I'm glad you've been able to find groups and websites that are able to help you with your goals, both educationally and professionally!
